Border Patrol now Copyright Police!

The Vancouver Sun reports today that soon border patrol agents could finally be doing something about illegally downloaded MP3s.  For those Americans or Canadians don’t regularly cross the border it’s mostly a non issue.  But for those of us who live close enough to regularly cross an international border, it’s a welcomed relief!

For those who’ve never had the experience, let me outline how serious and scary this sceanario can be.

You’re sitting in a line of cars, perhaps 6 lanes across, sometimes 50 cars deep waiting to cross into Canada and it happens; the college student in the next car cranks up the stereo and you hear it:  the opening bars to Death Cab’s new CD.  But, how could that be?  The CD does not release for another week!?  Your heart begins to pound, you break out in a sweat.  “Don’t these border patrol agents hear this??  Should I alert them?  What about the innocent American family in the mini van on the other side of me, quietly minding their own business.  What about the children!  Someone protect the children!”.  Your mind races.  You grasp your passport and rub the United States seal reassuringly.  Surely this injustice will be quelled.

Suddenly, the lane next to you gets waved forward and the college student in their late model Honda accord rolls slowly toward the border patrol agent.  This could be ugly, you think.  What about all these innocent people!!??

I don’t have to tell you what happens next.  Yep, you guessed it, they wave this menace through the border and into Canada to wreak havoc.  Who knows what other implements this person may have in their possession?  A ripped copy of Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention?  Or worse, Johnny Cash: Live from Folsom Prison on their laptop.  Possibly even “recorded” from their father’s original vinyl collection!  You see where I’m going with this!  These people cannot compamise our national security and safety any longer.  I for one, stand with the world court in judgement of these individuals and want to feel safe crossing back and forth into the U.S.  So I say”Let’s Roll”.
